We offer weeklong camps, starting the week of June 16th and lasting through the week of August 18th. Our focus is on “Crafty Entrepreneurship,” where in the mornings, our campers, the Shinelings, will learn how to make a product - bath bombs, sugar scrubs, candles, soaps, and more. In the afternoons, they will visit local businesses to learn about their operations or make a “market” craft. For the market crafts, our Shinelings will learn how to advertise and price them. Then, on the Saturday following their weeklong camp, our Shinelings will be invited to sell the market crafts they made in the afternoon at the South Durham Farmers Market, with all proceeds going to a local charity selected by the Shinelings. From making to learning and selling, we offer an entrepreneurial experience like no other camp!
Our Camp's recommended guidelines are listed below. Please consider your child’s maturity when registering.
- Designed for rising 3rd graders to 8th grade and up. (Must be at least 8 years of age or older.)
- Space is limited to 12 children per session.

The Soap and Shine is located at the Chapel Hill University Place location at 900 Willow Drive Unit 111.
Camp Hours
- Full Day: 9:00am – 3:00pm
- Drop-off: 8:30am – 9:00am
- Pick-up: 3:00pm – 3:30pm
What Comes with the Camp
- Each Shineling will receive an apron as a keepsake.
- Each day, a project will be created, and most can go home the same day unless overnight drying is required.
- For example, on Tuesday, your child will create 3-6 bath bombs. However, the bombs will need to dry overnight, so they will go home with your child the next day.
- STEM is integrated throughout our activities, such as our Shinelings learning how to handle chemicals properly to measure ingredients.
- Each Shineling will have a notebook to record recipes, notes, and product designs
- Each Shineling will record a workbook that includes entrepreneurial activities for product design, marketing, and pricing
Pricing and Additional Information
*Early registration is open until February 10th. You can register in person or online. If you register by February 10th, you will receive a 10% discount.
Our camp runs Weekly Monday through Friday, 9am to 3pm, and costs $275. A $150 deposit will hold a seat for your child, and $125 is due prior to the camp start date.
Shinelings will need to pack lunch, bring a water bottle and wear suitable clothes for crafting (no open-toe shoes please). Each Shineling will have access to a fridge/freezer and a microwave if needed.
The registration deadline for each weekly camp is seven days prior to the first day. We will run the camps regardless of the number of Shinelings registered. You will receive an invoice from Square for the remainder of the balance three weeks before the first day of camp. We appreciate your prompt payment to secure your child’s spot. If we do not receive your payment five days prior to the first day of camp, your spot will be offered to another camper, and your deposit will be lost.

Waitlist
- If you were added to a waitlist, there is no fee. However, you will have two weeks once notified to pay the deposit if a spot opens. You will be notified via email and have one week to respond.
